Funeral services for Mr. John Thomas "Fishman" Gardner, Jr. are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 9, 2008 at the chapel of Golden Funeral Home with Rev. Jeff May officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 5-8 p.m. at Golden Funeral Home.
Mr. Gardner was born in West Monroe, LA, on October 27, 1927 and passed away January 7, 2008 at Morehouse General Hospital. He was a retired vulcanizer from International Paper Company in Bastrop. He retired in 1990 after 41 years of service. Mr. Gardner was a member of White Avenue Baptist Church. He was a dedicated and faithful husband, father, friend, and fisherman.
Mr. Gardner is preceded in death by parents, John Thomas Gardner, Sr. and Lena Cash Gardner; six brothers, Benny Gardner, Jimmy Gardner, W.T. Gardner, Lynn Gale Gardner, Eugene Gardner, Leon Gardner; and two sisters, Peggy Gardner Strickland and Shirley Gardner McKenzie.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Nell Parrott Gardner; daughter, Brenda Gardner of Bastrop, LA; two sisters, Lorene Chunn of Brously, LA, Rhoda Brown of Norwalk, CA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Serving as pallbearers will be nephews, Ronnie Chunn, Keith Early, Steve Jones, Craig Jones, David Jones, and Michael Warren. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. John Coats, Charles Whitaker, Johnny M. Jones, and the staff of North Point Ford.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
