Obituary of Millicent Brodnax McKoin

Funeral services for Millicent Brodnax McKoin will be held Saturday, November 10, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at Mer Rouge United Methodist Church with Rev. Jeffery Robinson and Rev. Mollie McGee officiating. Interment will follow in Christ Church Cemetery under the direction of Golden Funeral Home. Mrs. McKoin died Tuesday, November 6, 2012 in Mer Rouge, LA.
She was 85, born on July 12, 1927 to Mary and Edward Brodnax, in Bonita. She had two older sisters and one older brother. She was affectionately know as "Millie Carter" by her family and many relatives. Her family moved to Bastrop where she grew up attending Bastrop High School. She was a Kappa Delta while attending LSU. She was the alumni chapter adviser after graduation.
She married Virgil LeRoy McKoin in 1958 in Baton Rouge where they lived for 50 years enjoying being members of a dance club, traveling all over the United States in their motor home (yes with their children as well). They moved to Mer Rouge in 2008. She was a member of Broadmoor Methodist Church in Baton Rouge and transferred her membership to Mer Rouge United Methodist Church. She loved gardening and watching birds and as she got older she enjoyed riding in her golf cart in the backyard.
She was predeceased by her husband, of 51 years; her parents, Edward Terrell and Mary Cummings Brodnax; her sisters, Elizabeth Brodnax Cook and Mary Cummings Brodnax Barham and an only brother, First Lt. Edward Terrell Brodnax, Jr., USAAC. She leaves behind a son, Hugh Phillips McKoin; a daughter Millicent Cade McKoin; granddaughters, Mackenzie Elizabeth Niland, Sydney Cade Wacker, Gwendolyn Carter McKoin; and step-granddaughters, Evelyne Truitt and Ellsbeth Truitt.
Pallbearers are Preston Barham, Pat Bonner, Dr. Louie Crook, William Davenport, James Devereaux Eckles, John Fredrick Smith, Alfred Gustus Wacker, III (Tripp).
She was extremely kind, gracious and giving, always thought of others and helped many. She was a wonderful mother and will be missed greatly by many. I love you mom, I'll miss you.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorial contributions to the Louisiana Methodist Children's Home or the Morehouse Humane Society.
Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday at Golden Funeral Home.
