Funeral services for Mr. George M. Shamblin, Sr., age 93, of Bastrop are scheduled for 2 PM Friday, November 16, 2012 at Central Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Britt Dupree and Rev. Mollie McGee officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Shamblin, a retired supervisor at International Paper Company and an avid photographer, passed away Tuesday, November 13, 2012 at St. Francis Hospital. He served his country in the United States Army during World War II. He participated in 6 military campaigns in the European Theater. Mr. Shamblin was awarded the Air Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, the Good Conduct Medal, a Presidential Citation, and the European Theater Operation medal with 6 battle stars. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Drane Williams Shamblin; son, Dr. George Shamblin, Jr. and wife Alicia of Round Rock, TX, daughters, Mary D'Arcy and husband Neville of Columbia, LA, Kay Arthur and husband Hugh of Bastrop, LA, Debbie Harper and husband Clarence of Bastrop, LA; sister, Bea Addison and husband Carl of Sterlington, LA; grandchildren, Ken Shamblin, Mike Shamblin, Staci Fontenot and husband Mike, Will D'Arcy, Chris D'Arcy and wife Danielle, Kathy Watts, Amanda Belin and husband Joe, Aubre Polo and husband Garrett; eighteen great grandchildren, six great great grandchildren. Mr. Shamblin is preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Naomi Shamblin; brother, Sam Shamblin; sister-in-law, Celeste Shamblin; sisters, Ruth Nichols, LaDora Shamblin, Mae Potter; first wife, Mary Ella Shamblin; second wife, Myrtis Watters Shamblin and grandson, John Christopher Shamblin. Serving as pallbearers are Chris D'Arcy, Will D'Arcy, Mike Shamblin, Gavin Watts, Joe Belin, and Mike Fontenot. Honorary pallbearer will be Conner Watts. Visitation will be held Thursday, November 15, 2012 from 5 PM- 8 PM at Golden Funeral Home.
