Obituary of Virgil Lee "Virg" Carney

Funeral services for Mr. Virgil Lee "Virg" Carney, age 72, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, November 24, 2012 at the chapel of Golden Funeral Home. Interment will follow in McGaha Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday from 6-9 p.m. at Golden Funeral Home. Mr. Carney was a member of Cherry Ridge Baptist Church and a former employee of International Paper Company. He loved the outdoors, hunting, his .22's, and target practice shooting. Mr. Carney was a very loving husband, father, brother, and friend. He was the favorite uncle to his nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Harvey and Mertie Carney; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Jacob and Lavada Whorton; sister, Ethel Chance; brother, Dennis Carney; three brothers-in-law, Leroy Whorton, Donald Whorton, Jerry Whorton; nieces, Kathy Whorton, Cynthia Whorton Grey; and great nephew, Lafayette Matthew Praetorius. Mr. Carney is survived by his childhood sweetheart and loving wife of 53 years, Evelyn Jeanette "Net" Carney; loving daughter, Janet Marie Carney of Bastrop; special daughter, Denise Cain of Bastrop; sister, Florence Eskew and husband Clifton of Bastrop; two brothers, Floyd Collins Carney and wife Lois of Bastrop, James Carney and wife Ann of Bastrop; brothers-in-law and childhood friends, John Lester Whorton and wife Joan of Oak Grove, Glenn Whorton and wife Ruthie of Bastrop; sisters-in-law, Betty Jean Whorton of Bastrop, Jenny Whorton of Monroe; and special friend, Aubrey Glover. Serving as pallbearers will be David Bass, Carl Brodnax, Charles Matheny, William Nason, Todd Wilson, and Donald Givens.
