Obituary of Sr. Simmons

Funeral services for Mr. Elmo Lee Simmons, age 91, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday January 22, 2008 at the Chapel of Golden Funeral Home with Rev. Dale Jordan officiating. Interment will follow in Christ Church Cemetery. Mr. Simmons, a resident of Bastrop and member of White Avenue Baptist Church, passed away Saturday, January 19, 2008 at his residence. He was born December 30, 1916, in Vienna, LA. He was employed by United Gas Pipeline Company as a meter and well attendant from 1943 to 1979 and retired after 35 years of service. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Ruth Elizabeth Nelson Simmons; son Donald Rickey Simmons and wife Carmen Colvin Simmons of San Antonio,TX; grandchildren, Dana Lee Simmons, Christina Simmons Barnhill and Husband Mike; great grandchildren, James Joseph Simmons, Jeffrey Alexander Simmons, Victoria Leigh Simmons and Matthew Garrison Simmons. He is preceded in death by a son, Elmo Lee Simmons, Jr.; parents William Sterling Simmons and Beatrice Sealy Simmons; siblings, Joseph S. Simmons Gladys Simmons McKee, Mattie Sue Simmons Larance, Victoria Simmons McCoin, Jewell Simmons Larance, James M. Simmons, Mary Simmons Jackson and a grandson Jeffery Lane Simmons. Serving as pallbearers will be Dana Simmons, Alex Simmons, Mike Barnhill, Mark Gillum, Lloyd Harrell and Don Estep.
