Obituary of Marshall "Shine" Duncan

Funeral services for Mr. Marshall "Shine" Duncan, age 88, are scheduled for 1 p.m. Monday, December 3, 2012 at the chapel of Golden Funeral Home with Rev. Marcelle Crow officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held 5-8 p.m. Sunday at Golden Funeral Home. Mr. Duncan, a resident of Bastrop, passed away Friday, November 30, 2012. He was a retired International Paper Company employee and a member of Cherry Ridge Baptist Church. Mr. Duncan was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of Mt. Gerzim Masonic Lodge #54 and The Order of the Eastern Star. Mr. Duncan is preceded in death by his parents, Marshall and Lula Bell Duncan, and five brothers and one sister. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Ruth Duncan; children, Jerry Duncan and wife Pam of Bastrop, LA, Myra Williamson Byrne and husband Paul of Mer Rouge, LA, Carlene Heard and husband Terry of Dubach, LA; ten grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Serving as pallbearers will be Michael Duncan, Jess Duncan, Lance Edwards, Cole Myers, Tate Duncan, Tristen Varner. Honorary pallbearers are Terry Heard, Greg Duncan, Paul Byrne, Garry Duncan, Todd Fielder, Mike "Fuzz" Jones, Chance Coleman, and Bobby Lacaze. Mr. Duncan will be remembered as a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and uncle. He had a big heart and loved everyone. Memorial contributions may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Association.
