Funeral services for Mr. Richard Morgan Smith, 84, of Kingsport, TN, formerly of Bastrop were held at 10 a.m. Friday, January 25, 2008 at the Chapel of Golden Funeral Home. Interment was in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Smith, a former manager of 22 years with the Bastrop Otasco Store and the 1972 recepient of Manager of the Year, passed away on January 22, 2008, in Kingsport, TN. He was formerly a member of Bastrop Church of Christ where he served as an elder and Treasurer, but holds a current membership at Kingsport Church of Christ. He was a founding supporter of Ouachita Christian School, served in the Navy during World War II and the Korean War and was a past Post Commander at the Scott L. Hood Post # 51 of the American Legion. Richard Smith was born January 10, 1924 in Sacramento, CA to Alice and Lemuel Smith and later grew up in Joplin, MO where he met his wife of 59 years, Marjorie Dunn Smith. He is also survived by three sons, Galen Smith and wife Katherine of Kingsport, TN, Greg Smith of Park City, UT, Stanley Smith and wife Gail of Bastrop, LA; Twin brother, Ralph Smith and wife Wanda of Joplin, MO; six grandchildren, Kyle, Eric, Connor, Sara, Megan and Joshua. Richard is preceded in death by a brother, Robert Smith and sister-in-law, Grace Smith; sister, Muriel Smith; granddaughter, Allison Smith and a grandson, Dylan Smith. The family would like to send a special thanks to the members of Kingsport Church of Christ for all of their support and love, also to the doctors and nursing staff at the Holston Valley Hospital. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Kingsport Church of Christ.
