Funeral services for Vivian Harrison Sloat, 84, of Bastrop, will be 10 AM Wednesday, September 14, 2005 at the Golden Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Steve Speer officiating. Interment will be held at a later date, in Dobson Cemetery in Carlton Township, Tama County, Iowa. Ms. Sloat passed away Sunday, September 11, 2005 at Summerlin Lane Nursing Home. Ms. Sloat was a retired piano teacher in Bastrop and the surrounding area for 40 years, having served many churches and several civic organizations. She was a member of Grace Baptist Church. She was a dedicated Christian and a loving mother and grandmother. Ms. Sloat is survived by two daughters, Carol Skoglund & husband David of Rockwall, TX, Anne Chunn & husband James of Columbus, MS; foster daughter, Candy Doga & husband Brad of Milton, TN; sister, Wilda "Billie" Sorenson of Marshalltown, Iowa; two brothers, Homer Harrison, Jr. & wife Sue of Kokomo, IN, Wendell "Wink" Harrison & wife Dorothy of Marshalltown, Iowa; three grandchildren, Gregory Chunn & wife Linda of Jonesboro, GA, Johnny Mitchell of Florida, Amy Clark & husband Robbie of West Point, MS; four great grandchildren, Heather, Alexander, Kathryn Anne, and her newest great granddaughter, 4 week old Gracyn Hope; and brother-in-law, Mike McClure of Marshalltown, Iowa. She is preceded in death by her parents, and 4 sisters. Visitation will be held Tuesday, September 13, 2005 from 5 - 8 PM at Golden Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Grace Baptist Church building fund.
