Funeral services for Mrs. Florence Harris Spensley Mitchell, age 97, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday, December 27, 2012 at the chapel of Golden Funeral Home with Dr. L.H. McCollough officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. at Goldens.
Mrs. Mitchell, a retired International Paper Company employee and resident of LeGrand Health Care Center, passed away Wednesday, December 19, 2012 at Morehouse General Hospital. She is preceded in death by her husbands, James A. Spensley and E.T. Mitchell; two brothers, Gurney Harris and Bob Harris; and two sisters, Gussie McKay and Myra "Pete" Williams.
Mrs. Mitchell was born October 18, 1915 in Crossett, AR, to Ray and Celeste Stagg Harris. She married James Spensley on March 27, 1934. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Bastrop. She was an avid reader and very involved in church activities.
She is survived by her daughter, Jacquelyn Rose Spensley of Bastrop, LA; son, James Russell Spensley and wife Marilyn of Minneapolis, MN; four grandchildren, James Milo Beal of Coos Bay, OR, Alys Louise Spensley and husband Drew Lebkuecher of Alexandria, VA, Anderson James Spensley and wife Stacy of San Diego, CA, Angelica Cecelia Spensley of Minneapolis, MN; twin great granddaughters, Catherine Pearl and Louise Marie Lebkuecher; and many nieces and nephews.
