Ms. Pamela Beth Mayo, a Bastrop Resident, passed away unexpectedly at her home on Monday, December, 24, 2012. She was born on November 8, 1952. Preceding her in death were her father, G.C. Mayo, a well known carpenter, as well as her paternal grandmother, Mrs. Arrie Dee Mayo of Bastrop, LA; and maternal grandparents, Robert Cecil Wyatt and Isadora Jackson Wyatt of Bastrop, LA. Pamela grew up in Jones, LA and graduated from Bonita High School in 1970 and from Northeast Louisiana University School of Nursing with a BSN in 1975. She also did postgraduate study at Northwestern State University in Shreveport, LA prior to her nursing career. At times during her many years as an RN she oversaw the nursing section of the emergency care and endoscopy departments. She was also a medical/surgical nurse. She belonged to several professional groups in the Monroe area, including the LA State Nurses' Association and Sigma Theta Tau. Her career as a registered nurse included longtime employment at Conway Hospital in Monroe, North Monroe Hospital and concluded with a stint working at the North Louisiana Veterans Home in Monroe. Working in her chosen profession was cut short by injuries sustained in a serious traffic accident several years ago. Left to mourn her passing are her devoted mother, Martha Mayo of Bastrop, LA; her maternal aunts, Betty Brixey and Ina Mae Slaughter of Bastrop, LA, Carolyn (Jack) Allen of Ruston, LA, and Edna (Julius) Okruhlik of San Antonio, TX; along with numerous cousins, former coworkers and friends. A special canine companion, her pug Maggie, is grieving for Pamela too. She will be lovingly remembered by those who knew her. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, December 29, 2012 in the Chapel of Golden Funeral Home with Rev. Alan Eppinette officiating. Interment will follow in Beekman Cemetery under the direction of Golden Funeral Home. Serving as pallbearers will be Charlie Hudson, Doug Lambert, Alex Lambert, Toby Otero, Elliot Courson, and Ross Lambert.
