Services celebrating the life of William Howard Johnston, 97, were held at the First United Methodist Church in Bastrop, Louisiana, on Sunday, February 10, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. Officiating was Rev. Mark Benge. Interment followed at the Beekman Cemetery. Visitation was held from 1 p.m. until service time at the church. Howard was born on January 20, 1911 and passed away, after a lengthy illness, on Friday, February 8, 2008, at the Live Oak Retirement Center in Shreveport, Louisiana. He attended Broadmoor United Methodist Church in Shreveport for the past eight years. He was a long time member of the Bastrop United Methodist Church and retired from International Paper Company after 37 years of service. He is preceded in death by his parents, William J. and Lugenia M. Johnston; all of his siblings, Harvey Johnston, Harold Johnston, J. D. Johnston, Doris Johnston, Minnie Poston, Myrtle Tedeton, son-in-law, John F. Langston, and great granddaughter, Cameron Marie Langston. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Muriel Day Johnston; daughter, Bunny Langston; son, Bill Johnston and wife Van; three grandchildren, Will Langston and wife Kelly, Lauren Willcox and husband Chris, Dillon Wright; three great grandchildren, Ellie and Grace Willcox and John Anthony Langston. Honoring Howard as pallbearers were: Will Langston, Dillon Wright, Charles Moore, Gayle Garrett, Curtis Turner, Nat Little and Jim Merritt. Honorary pallbearer is Chris Willcox. Daddy was a gracious gentleman in the truest sense of the word. He loved the Lord. He loved his family and he was a faithful friend.
