Obituary of Lelia Ann Murphy

A memorial service for Lelia Ann Murphy, age 82, is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, January 26, 2013 at the chapel of Golden Funeral Home with Rev. Cal Adams officiating. Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until service time on Saturday. Mrs. Murphy, a resident of Rayville, LA, formerly of Bastrop, LA, passed away Tuesday, January 15, 2013. She is preceded in death by her husband, Benny Murphy; son, Mark "Hog" Murphy; and two brothers, David Sherman and Bill Sherman. Mrs. Murphy was a member of Cherry Ridge Baptist Church. She and her late husband were very active in the church and served in many capacities. Mrs. Murphy truly loved the Lord. She also enjoyed sewing and gardening. She loved to laugh, enjoyed a good joke, was quick witted, and liked talking on the phone to her many friends. She is survived by her daughter, Melissa Drake and husband Monte of Rayville, LA; sister, Faye Priddy of Bastrop, LA; five grandchildren, Mark Drake and wife Heather, Dustin Drake, Justin Drake, Weston Drake, all of Rayville, LA, Amanda Drake of Winter Park, FL; nieces and nephews, Donna Stevenson and husband Gary, Diane Stapleton and husband Charles, Dee Bennett and husband Mike, Lee Sherman, Michael Sherman and wife Patricia; and numerous great nieces and great nephews. Memorial contributions may be made to Cherry Ridge Baptist Church building fund or to the church's Keenager Group.
