Obituary of Jean Smith Curtis

Funeral services for Mrs. Jean Smith Curtis, age 87, are scheduled for 2 PM Friday, January 18, 2013 at Cherry Ridge Baptist Church with Rev. Kyle Peters officiating. Interment will follow in Christ Church Cemetery. Mrs. Curtis was born December 1, 1925 in Wilmot, AR and passed away Tuesday, January 15, 2013 from a sudden illness. She was a member of Cherry Ridge Baptist Church and a former longtime member of Bonita Baptist Church. She was beloved by her children and grandchildren. Jean had strong ties to her community and was a devout Christian who attended church regularly as her health permitted. Mrs. Curtis was a resident of Bonita, LA where she was a beautician until she moved to Bastrop in 2008. She is preceded in death by her parents, Boyd E. and Ala B. Smith of Bonita, LA; two brothers, Boyd Smith, Jr., Kenneth Smith and former husband, Elmer Curtis. Mrs. Curtis is survived by son, Cleve Curtis of Bastrop; daughters, Ronna McCarty and husband David of Bastrop, LA, Elizabeth Curtis Petrus of West Monroe, LA; sister, Mary Satterfield and husband Clifton of The Woodlands, TX; five grandsons, who affectionately called her "Mama Jean", David Mitchell McCarty of Lubbock, TX, Chris Petrus of Fairhope, AL, Eric Petrus of Warwick, RI, Jason Petrus of Monroe, LA, Ryan Petrus of Houston, TX; six great grandchildren, Cody Petrus, Kyle Petrus, Tucker E. Petrus, Sadie Petrus, Madison Petrus and Savannah Petrus. Pallbearers will be; Roy Walton, Gary Cooper, Sam Petrus, Charles Cook, Ronald Long and Elroy Glosup. Visitation will be held Thursday, January 17, 2013 from 5 PM - 8 PM at Golden Funeral Home.
