Obituary of Bobby Gerald Smith

Funeral services for Mr. Bobby Gerald Smith, 74, of Mer Rouge, LA will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, February 18, 2008 at Mer Rouge United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at the Bartholomew Methodist Cemetery. The Reverends Samuel Emanuel, Ramon Warren and Bo Horne will be officiating under the direction of Golden Funeral Home. Mr. Smith was born in Kingsland, Ark. on December 24, 1933 and died peacefully on February 14, 2008 at Morehouse General Hospital after a lengthy illness. He was the oldest son of Noel Clark Smith and Trecie Cheshier Smith. He was a graduate of Bastrop High School, NLU in Monroe and served in the U.S. Army as a helicopter crew chief. Mr. Smith was retired from International Paper as a Planning and Scheduling Supervisor for Construction Services. He was also a hunter, fisherman and an avid LSU fan. He dearly loved his Mer Rouge Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Betty Carpenter Smith; children, Elisabeth Smith Stack, John Frederick Smith and wife Lauren, Robert Smith; brother, Jimmy Clark Smith and wife Louise; grandchildren, Carol Stack, Joel Stack, Maggie Stack, John Garrett Smith; aunts, Bea Rhodes, Frances Russell, Ruby Heuguely; nephews, Jimbo Smith, Kelly Smith and David Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be his sons, John and Robert Smith; brother, Jimmy Smith; nephew, Jimbo Smith; special friends, Kenneth Honeycutt and Walter Hull. A special thanks goes to his classmate, friend and doctor, Dr. Carter Cox, Dr. Marshall Leary, Dr. David Raines and Dr. Robert Ewing. Memorials may be made to the Methodist Childrens Home at P.O. Box 929, Ruston, LA 71273.
