Obituary of Oscar "Papa" White

Funeral services for Mr. Oscar "Papa" White, age 71, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, February 23, 2008, at Canaan Baptist Church with Rev. Jimmy Wright officiating. Interment will follow in La-Ark Cemetery under the direction of Golden Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Friday from 5-9 p.m. at Canaan Baptist Church.
Mr. White, a resident of Bastrop, passed away Tuesday, February 19, 2008, while attempting to rescue his granddaughter, Grace Witcher.
He was a retired carpenter and a member of Mt. Olive Church. He was a Shriner, a 32 degree Mason, and a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
He is survived by his wife, Violet "Mooters" White; daughter, Kimberly White of Bastrop; grandchildren, Don Honaker, Sarah Honaker, Jacob Witcher; sister, Margie Pardue of Bastrop; and four brothers, Jerry White of Mer Rouge, Robert White of Start, William White of Bastrop, and George White of El Dorado, AR.
