Obituary of Mary Alice Gilbert

Funeral services for Mary Alice Gilbert, 90, will be held Saturday, February 23, at 10:00 A.M. in the chapel of Golden Funeral Home, Bastrop, LA with Rev. Britt Dupree officiating. Interment will follow in Christ Church Cemetery, Bastrop, LA. Visitation will be Friday, February 22, from 5:30 to 7:30 P.M. Mrs. Gilbert passed away on February 20, 2013. She was a resident of LeGrand Healthcare Facility and had made that her home for the past 8 months. Preceding her in death was her husband, Guy W. Gilbert, her parents, Leslie and Ollie Warren, sisters, Capatola "Susie" Chapman, Ruth Thomas, and Mildred Frith; son-in law Ira H. Landry; brother in laws Bill Smylie, Bud Paige, Robert White, and Wayne Thompson. Survivors include son James Curtis Gilbert and wife Lena of Texarkana, TX; daughter Earlene Landry of Monroe, LA; sisters Bonnie White, DeKalb, MS, Janie Smylie, Meridian, MS, Dorothy Porter, Meridian, MS, Belle Paige, Meridian, MS, and Roberta Thompson, Atlanta, GA; brothers Wayne Warren and wife Jean, Joe Warren, and wife Sandra and Jimmy Warren, all of DeKalb, MS; three grandchildren, and their spouses, Sherrie Parker and husband Danny, Maud, TX; Alan Gilbert and wife Melanie, Washington D.C. and Phil Gilbert and wife Debbie, Bedford, TX; and seven great grandchildren: Sarah and Kimberly Parker, Phillip, Kayleigh and Matthew Gilbert, and Ethan and Margaret Gilbert; step great granddaughter, Shannon Norman and husband Craig; three step great great grandchildren, Nicholas Norman, Alexander Norman, Samantha Fugot and husband Joe; plus a multitude of nieces and nephews and friends. Pallbearers will be grandsons and nephews. Mrs. Gilbert had been a resident of Bastrop for the last 59 years and was a long time member of Central Missionary Baptist Church. She will be remembered for her love of her family, her church and her friends. She loved spending time in her yard, taking care of her flowers, making sure they had what they needed, so that we would be able to enjoy the fruits of her labor each spring and summer. Memorials may be made to Central Missionary Baptist Church's building fund or the Louisiana Missionary Baptist Institute and Seminary, Minden, LA.
