Obituary of James Robert "Bob" Watson

Graveside funeral services for Mr. James Robert "Bob" Watson, age 71, of New Iberia, formerly of Bastrop, LA, are scheduled for 1 PM Sunday, March 3, 2013 at Christ Church Cemetery with Rev. Henry Stone officiating. Visitation will be held Saturday, March 2, 2013 from 5 PM - 9 PM at Golden Funeral Home.
Mr. Watson passed away peacefully surrounded by his daughters on February 27, 2013. He was a retired millwright at International Paper Company, lifetime member of the National Rifle Association and a very strong supporter of the second ammendment. He served in the United States Army as a missile technician and was stationed in Anchorage, Alaska. While enjoying his stay in Alaska, in 1958 he held the title of season record for a caribou. Mr. Watson enjoyed spending time with his girls, Karen, Cheryl, Christy and Kricket. He enjoyed woodworking, salt water fishing with his daughter and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He taught his daughters to hunt, shoot guns, mechanic work and woodwork in a successful effort to make them strong and independent.
He is survived by his daughters, Karen Watson of Shreveport, LA, Cheryl Beth Watson and husband Ben Huff of New Iberia, LA; mother, Lois Warren Watson; brother, Jerry Watson and wife Gloria of Bastrop, LA; grandsons, James (Jamie) Simmons and fiancee' Mary Hunstein of Jacksonville, FL, Jace Michael Withers of Bastrop, LA; great grandson and apple of his eye, Logan Conner Hunstein; mother of his children, Connie Patrick; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; dear friend and hunting partner, Felipe Rivera of Espanola, NM; special family friends whom he loved dearly, Sharon (Kricket) Fortner of Bastrop, LA and Christy Belgard of Shreveport, LA.
Mr. Watson is preceded in death by his father, Fred William Watson and a brother, Fred William Watson, Jr.
Serving as pallbearers will be Caleb Wallace, Cole Wallace, Ben Huff, Lance Rogers, Karen Watson and Cheryl Beth Watson.
Honorary pallbearers will be Felipe Rivera, Harry P. Migues and Clifton Rogers, Jr.
His daughters wish to thank Ed Patrick, Vickie Romero, Jerry and Gloria Watson for their strong support, care and love.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the National Rifle Association or to the charity of choice.
