Obituary of Wilford Carl Layton

Funeral services for Mr. Wilford Carl Layton, age 92, will be held Wednesday March 13, 2013 at 2 p.m. at the United Pentecostal Church with Rev. Arrie Fulton and Rev. Dwight Fulton officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Golden Funeral Home. Mr. Layton, a resident of Bastrop and a retired Machine Operator at International Paper Company Single Services, passed away Monday, March 11, 2013. He was a member of the United Pentecostal Church and a veteran of World War II. The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Michael Smith, Morehouse General Hospital, Bastrop Rehabilitation Hospital, and LeGrand Health Care and Rehabilitation Center. Mr. Layton is preceded in death by his wife Dorothy Odessa Wilburn Layton; parents, Pearl Phillips Layton and Willis Carl "Luther" Layton; and four sisters, Marie Cameron, Claudine Wright, Norma Lee Warton, and Vertie Mae Fillingame. Mr. Layton is survived by one daughter, Carolyn Tharpe and husband Bill of Bastrop, LA; son, David Layton and wife Jonann of Rayville, LA; six grandchildren, Jason Tharpe and wife Deanna, Jobie Tharpe, Brooke Layton, Brandon Layton, Jenni Kennedy, Jonah Kennedy; seven great grandchildren, Jakob Tharpe, Kaden Tharpe, Joel Tharpe, Connor Lively, Allie Tharpe, Emma Kate Layton, Cullen Lowery; and numerous nieces and nephews. Serving as pallbearers will be Jobie Tharpe, Brandon Layton, Kaden Tharpe, David Cameron, Jerry Cameron, and Hollis Nugent. The family will receive friends Tuesday at the United Pentecostal Church at 5 p.m.
