Obituary of Jesse Howard Irby

Graveside funeral services for Mr. Jesse Howard Irby, age 89, are scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday March 20, 2008 at Redwing Cemetery with Rev. Todd Wooden officiating. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 5-9 p.m. at Golden Funeral Home. Mr. Irby, a retired farmer and resident of Bastrop, was born November 6, 1918. He passed away Tuesday, March 18, 2008, at Morehouse General Hospital after a lengthy illness. He was a World War II veteran having served in the U.S. Army. He was a life member of the VFW and a member of the American Legion. Mr. Irby is preceded in death by his parents, Holder & Myra Irby; two brothers, Dewey Irby and James Irby; and three sisters, Annie Mae Blackledge, Alice Holley, Asha Hicks and Doris Kennedy. He is survived by his wife, Bessie Holley Irby; three sisters, Georgia Deal of West Monroe, LA, Helen Miller of Pineland, TX, Ida Mae Mercer of Oak Grove, LA; step-children, Raymond & Sandra Holley of Mer Rouge, LA, Tim & Candy Holley of Bastrop, LA, Inez Holley of Crossett, AR, Duania Porter of Bastrop; numerous nephews, nieces, step-grandchildren, and step-great grandchildren.
