Margie (Marjorie) Shaw Sterling, age 93, of Bastrop, LA, passed from this life on April 22 , 2013 in West Monroe, LA. Mrs. Sterling was born Jan. 1, 1920 in Bernice, LA. She is survived by three daughters, Myrtis Ruth Perdue and husband, Raymond, of Rogers, AR, Carolyn Sue Rowden and husband, Gary, of Longview, TX, and Linda Kay Adams and husband, Bobby, of Pampa, TX; five grandchildren, Tami Ditta and husband Robert of Lowell, AR, Todd Perdue of West Monroe, LA, Lonny Rowden and wife Kathleen of Long Beach, CA, Lara Brown and husband Lynn of Grand Prairie, TX, and Kerry Adams of Amarillo, TX; seven great-grandchildren, Dani Dean of Winnsboro, LA, Ryan Ditta and wife Jenny of Springdale, AR, Jordan Perdue of West Monroe, LA, Joy Rowden of Long Beach, CA, Sterling Adams of Midland, TX, Joanna Rowden of Long Beach, CA, Wyatt Brown of Grand Prairie, TX; four great-great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn Tilman of Winnsboro, LA, Maddelyn Cruse of Winnsboro, LA, Carly Dean of Winnsboro, LA, and Gage Maxey of West Monroe, LA; children of her heart, Johnny Hughes and wife Ann of Bastrop, LA , Brenda Cox and husband Bobby of Hohenwald, TN, and Bruce Hughes and wife Diane of Columbia, TN; two sisters, Bobbie Smith of Marion, LA and Melba Wood of Marion, LA; and one brother, John Shaw and wife Diane of Swartz, LA.
Mrs. Sterling was preceded in death by her husband of 73 years, Will Archie Sterling, an infant son, Ronald Wayne Sterling, and a sister, Ruth Hughes Cookson.
She was a member of First Assembly of God Church in Bastrop. Mrs. Sterling was valedictorian of her graduating class of Mer Rouge High School 1936 and a graduate of Northeast Louisiana State College of Monroe, LA. She was a loving and caring teacher to many students at Stinnett Elementary School, Stinnett, TX and Prairie View Academy, Bastrop, LA. Mrs. Sterling was an avid reader and crossword puzzle solver. She loved to crochet and quilt and was known for her country home cooking. Mrs. Sterling was an excellent Bible teacher and recently co-wrote a song with Chaplain Paul Ford of Agape Hospice in memory of her late husband titled "I'll See You Over There".
Visitation will be held from 6 - 8 p.m. Thursday April 25, 2013 at Golden Funeral Home Chapel. Services will be under the direction of Golden Funeral Home at 10:00 a.m. Friday, April 26, 2013 with Rev. Ezra Cook and Rev. Gary Rowden officiating. Interment will follow in Christ Church Cemetery, Bastrop, LA.
Pallbearers will be Robert Ditta, Kerry Adams, Bobby Adams, Johnny Hughes, Gary Rowden, and Todd Perdue.
The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude and appreciation to the caring staff of the Arbors and Terrace of Bastrop for creating a safe and secure home for their mother for the past four and a half years.
