Obituary of Jerrell Douglas "J.D." Abernathy

Funeral services for Mr. Jerrell Douglas "J.D." Abernathy, 71, of Bastrop, LA are scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday, April 14, 2008 at the Chapel of Golden Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Ingram officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. Sunday at Golden Funeral Home. Mr. Abernathy was retired from the financial industry. He was a member of First Baptist Church and served his country in the U.S. National Guard. He is survived by his wife, Doyce Jeanette Abernathy; daughter, Angela Miletello and husband Tony of Monroe, LA; son, Keith Abernathy and wife Trisha of Tulsa, OK; three step daughters, Ladonna Dodd and husband Dan of Bastrop, LA, Lisa Ratcliff and husband Deryl of Shreveport, LA, April Rookard and fiance' Quinton Jackson of Bastrop, LA; step son, Tommy Rookard, Jr. and wife Brenda of Bastrop, LA; ten grandchildren, Ashley Miletello, Joey Miletello, Michael Abernathy, Jennifer Abernathy, Trey Rookard, Matt Rookard, Austin Rookard, Amber Wilkerson, Nicklous Spigner, Robin Spigner and ten great grandchildren. Mr. Abernathy is preceded in death by his wife of 32 years, Pharye Abernathy; daughter, Brenda Renee Abernathy; great grandson, Ayden Douglas Miletello; father, Malcolm Abernathy and mother, Arlie McClure. Serving as pallbearers are: the deacons of First Baptist Church. Honorary pallbearers will be: Johnny Paige, Dan Dodd and members of Mr. Abernathy's Sunday School Class. The family wishes to thank Dr. Robert Lyon and the nurses in I.C.U. at Morehouse General Hospital for their special care during Mr. Abernathy's illness. Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association.
