Obituary of Sarah Virginia Smith DeForest

Graveside services for Sarah Virginia Smith DeForest, age 89, are scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday, May 29, 2008 at Memorial Park Cemetery with Rev. Mark Benge and Rev. Jim Ingram officiating. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. at Goldens. Mrs. DeForest, a resident of Bastrop, passed away Monday, May 26, 2008 at her residence. She was a secretary for Leonard Pratt at State Farm Insurance for 38 years. She was honored with the Community Service Award and provided flowers for First United Methodist Church for 43 years. She was a volunteer with the Morehouse General Auxillary and the Garden Club for many years. She was happiest when at home in her own beautiful yard. She is preceded in death by her husband, Elmer DeForest; parents, George W. Smith and Virginia Mallette Smith; and two brothers, Pierre Mallette Smith and Virgil Smith. Mrs. DeForest is survived by her children, Neal DeForest and wife Becky of Bastrop, Lynn "Pee Wee" DeForest of Bastrop; sister, Janet Fern Heckard & husband Don of Florida; grandchildren, Cheri Lynn DeForest, Lynn Doyle DeForest, Jr. & wife Ronda, Ginger DeForest Gilden & husband Flynn, Neal Allen DeForest, Jr. & wife Dawn; great grandchildren, Isabella DeForest, Paxton DeForest, Tony Moncada, Joleigh Lablanc, Graham Allen DeForest, Cayden Ross DeForest, and Aaron Mallette Gilden. The family would like to give special thanks to Jo Ann Johnson, Mary Katherine Bostick, Jewel Manning, Nita Anderson, Davita Galler, Dawn Scroggins, Mack Gay, Premier Hospice, and TruCare Home Health.
