Obituary of Barney Walker

Funeral services for Mr. Barney Walker, age 66, of Bastrop, LA, are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, July 9, 2011 at Central Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Phillip McCready and Rev. Britt Dupree officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Golden Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday at Golden Funeral Home.
Mr. Walker, a retired employee of Wells Cigarette Service (26 years) and Bastrop Vo-Tech (10 years), passed away Wednesday, July 6, 2011. He was a member of Central Missionary Baptist Church, member of "The Social Security Hounds" Sunday School class, and a member of the VFW. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. Mr. Walker enjoyed many outdoor activities, including raising and hunting with his beloved beagles, fishing, and spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Diane Bailey Walker; son, Frank Aaron Walker and wife April Comeaux Walker of Jennings, LA; four sisters, Mable Noble of Bastrop, LA, Dorothy Taylor of Tallulah, LA, Kathern Wallace of Epps, LA, Shirley Mercer of Epps, LA; and grandchildren, Stephen Alex Walker and James Michael Walker.
Mr. Walker is preceded in death his parents, Frank and Mammie Walker; two brothers, Lafay McCarver, Herman McCarver; three sisters, Lavada Baum, Eunice Wilson, and Gladys Lingefelt.
Serving as pallbearers will be Rev. Jim Crain, Gene Maxwell, Roy Graham, Tyler Buffington, Keith McLeod, and Jeff Guice.
Honorary pallbearers are Todd Lingefelt, Michael Blakely, and Billy Buffington.
The family requests that memorials be made to the Disabled American Veterans, P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH, 45250-0301.
