Obituary of Carl Clay "Cooter" Justus

Funeral services for Mr. Carl Clay "Cooter" Justus, age 84, of Bastrop, LA are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, December 31, 2011 at the Chapel of Golden Funeral Home with Revs. Britt Dupree and Doug Edwards officiating. Interment will follow in Carter Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. Friday at Golden Funeral Home. Mr. Justus, a retired employee of 35 years at International Paper Company and U.S. Army Air Force veteran of Okinawa, Japan, passed away Thursday, December 29, 2011 at Cherry Ridge Guest Care. He was a member of Central Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a former deacon and Sunday school teacher of the older men's class. He was also an avid woodworker and enjoyed reading and gardening. Mr. Justus is survived by his wife, Mary Helen Harris Justus; three daughters, Cynthia Dew and husband Wayne of Petal, MS, Kathy Kinnaird and husband Bruce of Bastrop, LA, Ellen Maxwell and husband Gene of Bastrop, LA; three sons, Timothy W. Justus and wife Mernet of Witchita Falls, TX, James C. Justus and wife Carol of Monroe, LA, Barry J. Justus and wife Kellie of Downsville, LA; thirteen grandchildren, Mary Ann Songer, Wayne Dew, Jr., Darren Justus, Rob Justus, Benjamin Wallace, Emily Snyder, Trey Maxwell, Michael Maxwell, Tommy Maxwell, Molly Maxwell, Brandon Justus, Gregory Justus, Ashley Justus; fourteen great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Luther F. and Beatrice Ragland Justus; an infant son; great grandson, Micah Brant Dew; sister, Beulah "Punch" Nelson; two brothers, Ralph and Joe Bob Justus. Serving as pallbearers are: Wayne Dew, Jr., Benjamin Wallace, Trey Maxwell, Darren Justus, Michael Maxwell, Rob Justus, Tommy Maxwell, Brandon Justus and Gregory Justus. Honorary pallbearers are: Brody Stevens, Logan Hagan, Dawson Hagan, Levi Songer, Kayne Dew, Tollan Wallace, Linden Justus, Gage Maxwell and the Central Baptist Church Men's Adult Sunday school class. Memorial contribution may be made to the Central Baptist Church Library Fund.
