Obituary of Martha Howell

Funeral services for Mrs. Martha Medlin Howell, 89, of Bastrop are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Friday, December 28, 2007 at the chapel of Golden Funeral Home with Pastor Klay Harrison officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mrs. Howell, a retired teacher, passed away December 25, 2007 at Cherry Ridge Guest Care. She was an active member of First United Methodist Church in Bastrop until her health prevented it. Mrs. Howell was married to Mr. Fay Morrison Howell for almost 50 years. Together they enjoyed fishing but they especially enjoyed eating the catch. Her teaching career ranged from Latin, English and Language Arts in Elementary and High School grades. Mrs. Howell loved her students and she loved teaching. She was also a member of many organizations, such as the Humane Society, the Retired Teachers Association, worked faithfully as a Hospital Auxillary, Literary Forum, Delta Kappa Gamma, U. M. W., Bible Study Group, doing home chores, and her own personal animal shelter with nine cats and three dogs.
She is survived by two sisters, Mary Evelyn Medlin of Jonesville, LA, Christine Medlin Drane of Forest, LA; sister-in-law, Alma Staneart of Los Angeles, CA; nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mrs. Howell is preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Fay Morrison Howell.
Visitation will be held Thursday, December 27, 2007 from 1 p.m. until 6 p.m. at Golden Funeral Home.
