Obituary of Rev. Jimmie Rodgers Herring

Funeral services for Reverend Jimmie Rodgers Herring, age 83, of Bastrop, LA, are scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday, April 1, 2013 at Bonita Road Baptist Church with Revs. Marty Black, Jimbo Herring and Kenny Herring officiating. Interment will follow in the Bonita Road Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday, March 29, 2013 from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m at the Bonita Road Baptist Church (Bastrop) and Saturday, March 30, 2013 from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. at the Goodwill Baptist Church (Goodwill). Reverend Herring, a retired Southern Baptist Minister and retired International Paper Company employee went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, March 28, 2013. He served as pastor of Bonita Road Baptist Church for 23 years and worked at International Paper as a trainer and supervisor for 28 years. He was saved, baptized and ordained as a deacon and minister at Goodwill Baptist Church and went on to begin his ministry as pastor of New Zion Baptist Church for eight years. He also served his country during the Korean Conflict. He spent two years in the U.S. Navy and four years in the U.S. Air Force. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Lucille Herring; three daughters, Connie Kitchens and husband James, Debbie Rawls and husband Rocky, Teresa Dance and husband David; two sons, Kenny Herring and wife Donna, Jimbo Herring and wife Beth; brother, B.W. Herring of Pine Bluff, AR; eighteen grandchildren and thirty great grandchildren. Reverend Herring is preceeded in death by his parents, Britt and Zora Herring, brothers; Robert, Cecil and Cleveland; sisters, Nanette Williams and Janie Mayhall and father and mother-in law Jeff and Beatrice Foster. Serving as pallbearers are: Marvin Jaggers, Jeff Philley, Jody Philley, Troy McLarrin, Dawson Blackard and Tommy Eldridge. Honorary pallbearers will be the remaining deacons of Bonita Road Baptist Church.
