Henry R. Taylor, a retired businessman, passed away Thursday, January 2, 2015, at the age of 92, after an extended illness. Funeral services are scheduled for 3 p.m. Sunday, January 4, 2015 at the First Baptist Church of Farmerville with Rev. Kurt Auger and Bro. Ronnie Parks officiating. Visitation will be held from 1:30 p.m. until 3 p.m. at the church. Interment will be in Rocky Branch Cemetery under the direction of Golden Funeral Home.
Mr. Taylor, born in Mangham, LA , grew up in Swartz, raised his family in Monroe, and retired to Farmerville on Lake D'Arbonne over 20 years ago. While healthy, he was an active member and deacon of First Baptist Church of Farmerville and had served as a deacon at two other churches in his earlier years. Mr. Taylor was a proud veteran of the USMC during World War II and served on the islands of Tarawa, Saipan, Tinian, and Okinawa with the 2nd Marine Division. He was a member of the occupied forces of Japan.
Following the war, Mr. Taylor returned home to Swartz and enrolled at the then Northeast Louisiana Junior College where he met the love of his life, Juanita Burford Taylor, whom he married in August of 1947. Following completion of course requirements at junior college, they moved to Baton Rouge where he earned his electrical engineering degree from LSU. Spurning offers from some of the largest manufacturers of electrical components, the couple returned to the Monroe area to be close to their parents and began a family of their own. For many years he worked as a salesman for Murco, Inc. which he helped form in the early '50s. Mr. Taylor was a past member of the Monroe City School Board, an associate member of the National Electrical Contractors Association, and a current member of the VFW Post in Farmerville. When healthy, he was an avid fisherman and an active member of his church, whose congregation was very dear to him.
Mr. Taylor is preceded in death by his wife of over 55 years and his parents, Mack Henry Taylor and Gladys Byargeon Taylor.
He is survived by two sons, Glenn R. Taylor of Farmerville, LA, Paul R. Taylor of Mountain Home, TX; his grandchildren, Kelly Taylor Geist and her husband, Jared, of Shreveport, LA, Jeff G. Taylor and his wife, Amanda Estep Taylor of Allen, TX, as well as four great grandchildren.
Serving as pallbearers are: Dale Buford, Tim Tettleton, Jarrell Matkins, Jr., Wayne West, Jeff Taylor and Leslie Towns.
Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 400 North Main St. Farmerville, LA 71241.
