Obituary of Hazel Smith

Funeral services for Mrs. Hazel Smith, age 88, will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 28, 2015 in the chapel of Golden Funeral Home with George DeVille officiating. Interment will follow in McKnight Cemetery under the direction of Golden Funeral Home. Mrs. Smith, a resident of Bastrop, LA and a homemaker, passed away Saturday, January 24, 2015 in West Monroe, LA. Mrs. Smith was formerly a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church and currently a member of Bonita Road Baptist Church. She enjoyed embroidering,crocheting, and Bluegrass Gospel Music. Mrs. Smith was a loving caregiver to her family and loved her grandchildren dearly. Mrs. Smith is preceded in death by her parents, John and Palestine King DeVille; husband, Robert Smith; son, Robert Smith, Jr.; grandson, Joseph Carey Smith; four brothers; and one sister. Mrs. Smith is survived by two daughters, Shirley Johnson of Bastrop, LA, Jean Book and husband Richard of Bastrop, LA; two sisters, Ruby Sander of Denver, CO, Eunice Clingan of Archibald, LA; three brothers, George DeVille and wife Melba of Jena, LA, Vernon DeVille and wife Milly of Oklahoma City, OK, Bert DeVille of Mangham, LA; grandchildren, David Jones, Brenda Hale, Jerry Bolin, Lisa Pollock, Connie Smith, Darlene Blackard; several great grandchildren; and numerous other extended family members. Serving as pallbearers will be David Jones, Micheal Jones, Joey Fontenot, Ryan Stanfill, Ross Blackard, and Dawson Blackard. Honorary pallbearers will be Jerry Bolin and Jim Pollock. The family will receive friends from 12 noon until 2 p.m. Wednesday at Golden Funeral Home.
