Obituary of Norma L. Atwell

Funeral service for Mrs. Norma L. Atwell is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Sunday, December 6, 2015, in the chapel of Golden Funeral Home with Rev. Jimmie Yocum officiating. Interment will follow in Bonne Idee Cemetery under the direction of Golden Funeral Home. The family will receive friends Saturday, December 5, 2015, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Golden Funeral Home. Mrs. Atwell, a farmer and homemaker who was dearly loved by her family, passed away Wednesday, December 2, 2015, at the age of 81. She was a member of Bethany Baptist Church where she was very active in all areas of the church including being the church secretary and a Sunday school teacher. She was a hard worker all her life and helped manage the farm. She was also known as a great cook who loved everyone. You never went hungry at her house. Mrs. Atwell is survived by her husband of sixty-six years, Vadis B. Atwell; daughters, Bonita E. Sliger and husband James H., Rhonda K. Little and husband Stephen B., Anita J. Furgason and husband Clint; son, Harold Atwell and wife Joan; sisters, Leah Gilmore and husband Buddy, Joyce Christensen and husband Norm; brothers, Raymond McGruder, John McGruder and wife Mary Helen, Jerry McGruder and wife Diane, Robert McGruder and wife Phyllis, James McGruder and wife Ester, Fred McGruder and wife Sherry; grandchildren, Brad Atwell, Jason Sliger, Amy Sliger Ware, Justin Atwell, Rachel Little, Seth Church; six great grandchildren and one on the way. She is preceded in death by her parents, Wren and Verneal McGruder; brother, Edward L. McGruder; and grandson, Joshua Little. Serving as pallbearers will be her grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be Pete Morrison, Lamar Belin, and Jerry Wolfe.
