Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Golden Funeral Home. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 28, 2016 at 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. service time.
He is survived by his daughters, Mary Singley, Marilyn Kay Laurich and husband Joe, Linda O'Connell and husband Thom; sons, Frankie Hinson and wife Debra, Steve Castro; brother, Charles Hinson and wife Ella; fourteen grandchildren and twenty-seven great grandchildren.
Mr. Hinson is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Liddie Hinson; wife, Maurine McGowen Hinson; son, Robert Castro, Jr.; grandsons, Jordan Hinson and Jeffrey Laurich and great grandson, Nathaniel Orion Strawn.
Mr. Hinson was fondly known as "RT" by many that knew him. He passed from this life to the next quietly at home on January 24, 2016. Mr. Hinson was born in Bastrop, LA where he lived until he joined the military in 1950 enlisting first with the National Guard for two years and was given an Honorable Discharge only to re-enlist in the Air Force from 1953-1972. He earned the following awards or medals; Good Conduct, American Defense, National Defense, Korean Service, United Nations Service, United Nations Metal, Air Force Longevity Service, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation, Foreign Service Clasp and the Oak Leaf Cluster.
After retiring from the military, Mr. Hinson signed up as a student at the Bastrop Vo-Tech in the drafting department. He finished his course in 1978, however, he did not leave. He was hired as an employee where he retired some 16 years later in 1995. In one of his reviews in 1991, his immediate supervisor said this, "Roy is an outstanding employee - goes far beyond the call of duty - keeps and maintains our grounds in excellent condition. Visitors are always making comments on how neat and clean the facilities are. The only problem with Mr. Hinson is that, rather than delegate, he prefers to do the work himself." Norene Smith
Once retired from the State of Louisiana, Roy enjoyed cooking with his wife, Maurine, making holiday meals very special for all their family. The two of them cooked Sunday dinners until 2004 when Maurine passed away. After her passing, Mr. Hinson filled the hours with cooking and running his very own "family taxi" service for his great-grandsons, Christian and Cody Singley, whom he dearly loved. Everyone knew that "family" meant the world to Mr. Hinson. He rarely missed an opportunity to have an ear to listen, a shoulder to cry on, or a word of advice to all he loved. He will be forever in our hearts and memories.
Serving as pallbearers will be Chris Singley, Tory Sanders, Andrew Sanders, Christian Singley, and Cody Singley.
