Max Dollar, Jr. of Bastrop, La. passed away on Friday, February 19, 2016 at the age of 66. Max was born to parents Max Dollar, Sr. and Alma Jacob Dollar on July 12, 1949. He was the oldest of four brothers and one sister. He wanted to be an only child! Max Attended ULM for several years. He moved to Colorado and worked for Stearns and Rogers Engineering. Max was quickly promoted to Vessel Designer which allowed him to work with the Alaskan Pipeline Project. Max also loved to build furniture. He later bought a Harley-Davidson and frequently scared Steve Priest with his trick riding skills. He later moved back to Monroe and finally into his family home which he loved. While living in Bastrop he took a much loved job with KLLM Trucking, visiting all of the lower 48 states and enjoying every moment. Max was funny, smart, and loved Scrabble and his caretaking sister, Jan. He loved sitting in his chair with his rescue cat, Sadie, in his lap. Max was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Dan Dollar, Ted Dollar and Keith Dollar, and a son, Cole Kirksey. Max is survived by his son Chris Dollar and his wife Tracy and three grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Jan Dollar Clay and husband Danny Clay of Monroe. He has numerous nieces and nephews. Max requested a cremation and his ashes to be scattered in Colorado at Independence Pass. Many thanks to Max's life long friend, Nancy Moore who devoted so much time taking Max to Ochners clinic and visiting with him. Thanks to his cousin, Susie and John Stout for frequent late night hamburger deliveries. Rev. John Pope for helping Max with his inspiring Christian insight. Thanks to Christy Clay for her many loving visits, late night trips and poetry she wrote to Max. Max made her his "official honorary daughter". Many thanks to Lagniappe Nursing Home, Dr. Byron Henry of Monroe and Golden Funeral Home for their caring assistance. A "Gathering of Friends" will be held at the home of Rhonda Johnson, 6081 Old Monroe Rd. Bastrop, LA 71220 at 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 27, 2016. In lieu of flowers memorial may be made to 1st Presbyterian church of Bastrop, 310 S. Washington St. Bastrop, LA 71220 or to River Cities Humane Society for Cats at 5302 DeSiard St. Monroe, LA 71203.
