Obituary of Claude W. Smith

Funeral services for Mr. Claude W. Smith, age 77, will be held at 10 AM Friday, June 3, 2016 in the chapel of Golden Funeral Home with Bro. Gayle Riles and Bro. Tim Post officiating. Interment will follow in Pine Grove South Cemetery under the direction of Golden Funeral Home. Mr. Smith a resident, of Bastrop, LA, passed away Wednesday, June 1, 2016, from a brief battle with Alzheimers. Mr. Smith was born in Shreveport, LA and raised in Calhoun, LA. He was the son of Leslie and Lillian Smith and the brother of Claudette Russell and Merlene Cox. In his early years Mr. Smith worked on the farm in Calhoun, rasing watermelons and vegetables. He attended Eros High School before meeting the love of his life Lana Turner, and married August 10, 1961. He was drafted by the U.S. Army in 1961 and served two years in Germany, before returning home to raise a family in Bastrop. Mr. Smith worked as an electrician and in the oil and gas industry, before retiring 2014. Mr. Smith was a member of Maranatha Baptist Church and had a love of God and family, and had a passion for tractors. Mr. Smith leaves behind his wife of 55 years, Lana Smith; sons, Keith Smith and wife Tammie, Kevin Smith, Brian Smith and wife Connie, Kenneth Smith and wife Trish; grandchildren, Joseph K. Smith and wife Jessica, Tori Bullock and husband Mason, Rachel Smith, David Smith, Kensley Smith and Bethany Smith; and a great granddaughter, Kinley Smith. Mr. Smith is preceded in death by his parents, Leslie and Lillian Smith. The family will receive friends from 5 PM until 7 PM Thursday at Golden Funeral Home.
