Obituary of O.Z. Perry Yates

Funeral services for Mrs. O.Z. Perry Yates, age 94, of Bastrop, LA, are scheduled for 2 PM Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at Golden Funeral Home with Rev. Dalyn Helbling and Rev. Karvin Adams officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Golden Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 5 PM until 7 PM Tuesday, January 3, 2017 at Golden Funeral home. Mrs. Yates, a retired school teacher of thirty plus years passed away January 1, 2017. She was a member of First Church of God and was a loving mother and Christian Lady. She lived her Christian life before people every day. She loved and enjoyed her profession of teaching. She was very active in her church and participated in all activities, including several mission trips outside of the United States. She is survived by her daughter, Linda Gayle Yates Johnston and husband Tommy A. "Bo"; son, Herman Shelby Yates,. Jr. and wife Dee; daughter-in-law, Becky Yates; brother, James Elmer Perry; grandchildren, Jeff Yates and wife Vickie, Lisa Firestine and husband Mike, Aimee Yates, Chasity Yates Rhodes and husband Jeremy, Nicole Johnston White and husband Damon, Brandon S. Johnston and wife Christina; 18 great grandchildren and 15 great great grandchildren. Mrs. Yates is preceded in death by her husband, Herman S. Yates, Sr.; son, Donald Ray Yates; grandson, Stephen Ray Yates; siblings, Lou West, Sue Estep, Geneva Stanford, Ferrel Perry, Floy Perry, and Clayton Perry. Serving as pallbearers will be Brandon Johnston, Jeremy Rhodes, Christopher Yates, Benjamin Yates, Brayden White and Mike Tubbs. Serving as an honorary pallbearer will be Kenneth Estep.
