Obituary of Ruth Duncan Watts

On April 3, 2017 Mrs. Ruth Duncan Watts went to her heavenly home. Ruth was born February 11, 1930, in Dade City, Florida. She was a beautiful and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt. Ruth married the first love of her life, M.E. “Shine” Duncan on September 26, 1947, and from that marriage there were three children, Jerry Wayne Duncan and wife Pam of Bastrop, LA, Myra Duncan Byrne and husband Paul of Mer Rouge, LA., and Carlene Duncan Heard and husband Terry from Dubach, LA. “Shine” went to his heavenly home in November of 2012 after 65 years of marriage. Though rare, Ruth met the second love of her life, Jesse O. Watts. Jesse brought the smile back to her face, the sparkle in her eyes and together they lived life to the fullest. For this, her children will be eternally grateful. From this union, she gained a son, O’Neil Watts of Bossier City, LA. Funeral services for Mrs. Ruth Duncan Watts, age eighty-seven, of Bastrop, LA are scheduled for 10 AM, Thursday, April 6, 2017, in the Chapel of Golden Funeral Home, with Rev. C.S. Cascio and Rev. Marcelle Crow officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 - 8 PM, Wednesday, April 5, 2017, at Golden Funeral Home. Mrs. Watts was a member of the Eastern Star for nearly 50 years, having been Grand Ruth, Order of the Eastern Star of the state of Louisiana, and Past Worthy Matron of the Sunny South #12 Order of the Eastern Star. Ruth was very talented. She loved writing poetry, singing and volunteered for many years at the Council on Aging. She was very active in many other community services. She is preceded in death by her first husband, M.E. “Shine” Duncan, her sister, Geneva Pollock and her brothers, Carl Tait and Jimmy Tait. Mrs. Watts is survived by her husband; three children; fifteen grandchildren, Michael Duncan and wife Melissa, Jess Duncan and wife Carrie, Chris White and wife Brittany, Lance Edwards, Gena Edwards Coleman and husband Chance, Owen Byrne and wife Sheila, Samantha Whitaker Fielder and husband Todd, Haley Whitaker Jones and husband Mike, Cole Myers and wife Samantha; Gage Heard, Sage Heard Greer and husband Joseph, April Heard Brantley and husband, Tyler, Rebekka Heard, Danielle Herring, and Mason Watts; twenty-six great-grandchildren; and a very special niece, Lillian Kibbie of Greenwood, MS. Ruth had numerous friends and extended family that she loved dearly and was always there with a helping hand when needed. The family wishes to express thanks to Lagniappe Healthcare, Premier Hospice, and an special thanks to Mickey Church. Serving as pallbearers will be Michael Duncan, Jess Duncan, Lance Edwards, Cole Myers, Tristen Varner, and Chandler Jones. Honorary Pallbearers are Chance Coleman, Todd Fielder, and Michael “Fuzz” Jones.
