Mr. Greene was a wonderful teacher, pushing his students to their limits. I attribute my love of history, especially American history to his class. It gave me a better perspective on how to view the world as I went to the Air Force Academy, and the active duty. He will be missed.

Dear Glen,
You are the most impressive man I have had the honor of serving together. You provided our students so much and only asked for their dedication to learning. Your gift to your students is life long for them. Your gift to me is equally appreciated. I have tried to contact you for the last few months and could not find a way to reach you. Guess we were meant to meet at a greater Place. I will wear my uniform and you wear the rank you so deserved.
My Love for all of us!

I was saddened to hear of Mr. Greene's passing. He was truly a fantastic teacher, always challenging his students. I was fortunate to have taken his Ancient and Modern History classes, The classes were beyond interesting but the real treat was in making movies. It was a fun way to learn about some aspect of history and gave me a great appreciation for how movies are made. My condolences to his family.

Mr. Greene. The man who told me I couldn't get into Harvard because he knew it would make me apply and hoped I'd get a scholarship. He made me know that doing enough wasn't good enough. He made me learn that I was good enough. The man who told my parents I wasn't trying my hardest when I had a 104 in his class.
The first person who didn't just tell me I could be whatever I wanted. He told me I wouldn't be what I wanted because I only gave the exact amount of effort I needed to be first.
The man who always gave me the exact message I needed to receive.
The best teacher there ever was. I wish he could see all of the memories his students are sharing on facebook about him.
Rest In Peace, Mr Greene. I hope you're running in heaven with all of the dogs you rescued. And I hope you're happy

Hi Mr. Greene,
This is Brent Simon, class of ’73. I remember the Volkswagen you used to drive when you rented the garage apartment from my aunt, also a teacher in the parish. I’ve been a teacher for a little over forty years now, and I’d like to think that when I get passionate about my subject, inspire a student to love my subject, or push a student to where they didn’t think that they could go, that I got much of that from you. Oh, that would be Math, not History. (Thank you Mr. Robichaux.) I had you for Ancient and Modern History at the old Destrehan campus. Two movies, “A Child is Born” and “Joan of Arc” were parts of these courses, and allowed me to belong to the Film Academy. What an amazing experience. Remember the mirror ball in the auditorium? Eat your heart out, John Travolta! You also exposed us to the art and music of each period of history. My two daughters know of you from the countless times I’ve said, “Thank you Glenn Greene,” after knowing the question in an art or music category on Jeopardy. I am currently teaching the son of another of your former students, and when we talked of you he said that when his dad got questions on Jeopardy and was asked “How do you know that?”, the answer was always “Mr. Greene.” You taught us, you inspired us, you pushed us, and you changed us for the better. Mostly, you cared about us as individuals, and for that we are eternally grateful. Thank you.

My condolences to Mr. Greene's family. He taught me in the 70's at DHS. He taught my son, Ryan in 2003. When I went to open house, Mr. Greene explained how long he had been teaching and that he could not remember all his students from the past. But he pointed at me and said I remember you. I will never forget Mr. Greene.

Mr. Greene was an icon at Destrehan High School. Everyone feared the work his classes required, but loved to take his class. He made so many memories with so many students. He was loved by the entire student body. We all have wonderful memories that we have shared on Facebook that we hope get to you all. He had a sense of humor like no other and his laugh was contagious. He was a great man who made great impressions on thousands of students over the course of his career. He is still talked about among classmates. I was lucky enough to have him for two years.
I am truly sorry for your loss and will include you all in my prayers.
Rest in Peace Mr. Greene.

I remember Mr Greene well from high school history classes. He was notorious as a teacher for having difficult tests and high expectations, but I remember a man who was passionate about teaching and who genuinely cared about his students. At one point in his AP American History class, I was struggling and he called me at home and spent time over the next few weeks to help me bring my grade back up. He was not afraid to be funny and different. He challenged us to think critically and always kept things interesting. God bless you, Mr Greene.
