Obituary of Max Cox Lucas
Max Cox Lucas died November 8, 2017, at Willis-Knighten Hospital in Shreveport, Louisiana, after a brief illnes. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Elaine Haynes Lucas, and his parents, Keith and Audelle Lucas.
Surviving him are his wife, Carolyn George Porter Lucas; his daughter, Cindy Lucas (Jeff) DeMent of Monroe, Louisiana; his son, Oliver Keith Lucas of Zachary, Louisiana; his grandchildren, Ashley and Ethan DeMent; his wife’s children, Julie Porter (Bobby) Cockrell of Bossier City, Louisiana; Dr. Neill (Amy) Porter of Meridian, Mississippi; and Chuck (Peggy) Porter of St. Mary’s, Georgia; and her ten grandchildren and one great-grandchild; his sister, Margaret Lucas Morris of Columbia, South Carolina; his brothers, Dr. Aubrey K. (Ella) Lucas of Hattiesburg, Mississippi; Russell R. (Wanda) Lucas of Wilmington, North Carolina; and many other relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be held at Golden Funeral Home in Bastrop, Louisiana, on Friday, November 10, at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Lisa Mayo officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. On Saturday, November 11, visitation will be held at the United Methodist Church in State Line, Mississippi, from 1:00 p.m. to 2 p.m. with graveside services following at the State Line Cemetery.
Max was born August 15, 1932, in State Line, Mississippi, where he graduated from high school as valedictorian of his class. His bachelors degree was received at The University of Southern Mississippi in accounting, and afterwards he served in the United States Army. He was employed his entire career with International Paper Company and served in several locations.
He was a longtime active member of the United Methodist Church, and as a teenager he served in several offices of the Methodist Youth Fellowship.
The family requests that instead of flowers, memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church of Bastrop, Louisiana @ 222 South Washington Street, Bastrop, Louisiana 71220 or the State Line Cemetery Association @ Post Office Box 461, State Line, Mississippi 39362.
