Obituary of Tommie Lou Miller Swain

Funeral services for Mrs. Tommie Lou Miller Swain are scheduled for 10:00 A.M. Monday, January 1, 2018, at Central Church of Christ. Bob Swain, Jason Cox, and Adam Miller will officiate. Interment will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Plain Dealing, LA at 2:30 P.M. The visitation will be held from 9:00 A.M. until service time Monday at the church.

Mrs. Tommie was born July 5, 1937, in Newark, AR. She passed away Saturday, December 30, 2017, at the age of 80. Her parents were Aubrey Earl and Mabel Young Miller of Plain Dealing, LA. She was a lifetime member of the church of Christ, having been baptized by her father at the Plain Dealing Church of Christ in 1948.

She was valedictorian of the 1955 class at Plain Dealing High School. She attended Centenary College and LSU in Shreveport. Tommie was a faithful member of Central Church of Christ and Goodwill Church of Christ.

Tommie met Robert Waymon Swain, Sr., when he came to preach for her home congregation in Plain Dealing in 1961. They were married at the church in 1969. They served churches in Ferriday, St. Joseph, Rayville, Bastrop, and Goodwill, LA, plus churches in Mississippi and Arkansas. They, with their sons, spent two years in Cameroun, West Africa doing mission work.

Survivors include her husband, Waymon, her sons, Robert Waymon, Jr. "Bob", his wife Ashley, and their children, Katy and Waymon Cooper; her eldest son, Jason Cox, his wife Elizabeth, and their children, Britt and Elizabeth. She is also survived by her brother, Tim and his wife Connie, and sister-in-law, Patsy Miller.

She is preceded in death by her infant sister, Ella Sue; her parents, Aubrey and Mabel Miller; an infant son, Gary Wayne; her brothers, Larry, David, and Lynn Miller and grandson, Robert Waymon Swain III.

Serving as pallbearers will be Buddy Frost, Roy Dean Sisson, Kenneth Looney, David Spann, Randy Swain, and Jeff Swain.
