Graveside funeral services for Mr. Alphies M. Baker, age 87, of Bastrop are scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Saturday, June 2, 2018 at Conway Church Cemetery, Union Parish, LA, with Bro. Paul Carter officiating.

Mr. Baker, a retired Reclaim Specialist of nearly fifty years for International Paper Company, passed away Monday, May 28, 2018, at the age of 87. He was a lifelong resident of Northeast Louisiana. He enjoyed the “rural” lifestyle, spending his time tending “country lifestyle” projects. He was an avid fisherman, and was known for his gardening ability. Mr. Baker had an awesome garden, and was known for his skills in the woods and success as a deer hunter.

He is survived by his children, Linda J. Howell of Morehouse Parish, LA; Anne Newsom and husband David of Grenada, MS, James A. Baker of Morehouse Parish, LA, Rebecca Edmonsond of Ruston, LA,  Lisa Baker of Cincinnati, OH;  sister-in-law, Joye Pardue Baker of Bastrop, LA, seven grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and five nieces and nephews.
    
Mr. Baker is preceded in death by his wife of sixty years, Nadine Lindsey Baker; parents, Johnnie   Alphies Baker and Helen Alice Martin Baker; brother, John Roland Baker and sister, Clara Alice Baker Phelps.

Honorary pallbearers will be J. T. Jones, Nathan Futch, Elvin Futch, John Michael Baker, Barry Phelps, Richard Phelps, Dr. Carter Cox, and Jesse Wood.

Visitation will be held Saturday morning, June 2, 2018 from 8:00 a.m. until 10 a.m. at Golden Funeral Home.
