Obituary of Menice M. "Buddy" Rawls, Jr.
Funeral services for Mr. Menice M. “Buddy” Rawls, Jr. are scheduled for 3:00 PM, Sunday, August 19, 2018, in the chapel of Golden Funeral Home with Bro. Andy Myrick officiating. Interment, with military honors, will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, from 1:00 - 3:00 PM service time.
Mr. Rawls, a resident of Bastrop, was born February 16, 1940, and passed away at his residence Thursday, August 16, 2018, at the age of seventy-eight. He was a retired Major in the United States Army having served in Vietnam during the Vietnam War. He enjoyed playing music with the Country Legends Band at local nursing homes. He was also a member of the Morehouse Country Club and loved golfing, fishing, and playing music.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Menice Rawls, Sr. and Maude Burgess.
Survivors include his daughter, Denise Rawls Desantis, of New York, NY; son, Kenneth Scott Rawls, of Portland, OR; sister, Shirley Rawls Evans, of White Hall, AR; and grandchildren, Marinna Rawls Desantis, and Michael J Desantis.
Serving as pallbearers are: Dr. Richard Russell, John Dennis Kelly, Doyle Boykin, Timothy Coker, Wayne Hudson and Gerald Huston.
Honorary pallbearers will be Buddy's Cousins: Arnold Rawls, Meeks Strong, Lennon Strong, Lonnie Hughes, Jimmy Hughes, Howard Hughes and Louie Hughes.
