Obituary of Mary Katherine Johnson

Please share a memory of Mary to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Mary Katherine Johnson went to her heavenly home, at the age of ninety, on Saturday, August 18, 2018.  She was born March 10, 1928, in Delhi, LA.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10 AM, Monday, August 20, 2018 at New Hope Baptist Church, in Jones, LA, with Rev. Gary Traylor officiating and assisted by Rev. Jimmy Yocum.  Interment will follow in the New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery under the direction of Golden Funeral Home of Bastrop.

Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her parents, Jeff and Beatrice Foster; brothers, Jeff Foster and Waymon Foster; and sisters, Lula Mae Fryday and Lucille Herring.

Mrs. Johnson was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.  Her hobbies included collecting angels, cooking for her family, and sewing.  One of her happiest times was her tenure at Morehouse Parish Farm Bureau, from which she retired after serving many years.  As a long-time resident of the Jones/McGinty community, she served the community through the Home Demostration Club.

She was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church, serving many years as the church secretary, until her relocation to Bastrop.  The family would especially like to thank the dedicated members of the church who, for so many years, provided transportation for her, and her husband, to attend church services in their later years.

Mrs. Johnson is survived by her husband of seventy years, Odell Johnson, of Bastrop; sons, Laverne, and wife Carolyn, of Bastrop, Earnest, and wife Becky, of Little Rock, AR, and Larry, and wife Ginger, of Monroe, LA; grandchildren, Jerromy Johnson, Amy Johnson, Jami Johnson, Jennifer Porter, Jeff Johnson, and Joanna McDuffie; and nine great-grandchildren.

Serving the family as pallbearers will be Derl Johnson, Don Doles, Rick Polk, Randy Haynes, Charles Cook, Jinks Pruitt, and Mike Houlihan.

Honorary pallbearers will be the men of New Hope Baptist Church.

The family would like to thank the staff of Lagniappe Health Care of Bastrop for their excellent care.

Visitation will be from 5 PM until 7 PM, Sunday, August 19, 2018, at Golden Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the New Hope Baptist Church, P. O. Box 120, Jones, LA  71250.
