Graveside funeral services for Mrs. Margaret Burlew Roussel are scheduled for 10 AM Tuesday, July 30, 2019 at the Memorial Park Cemetery, with Bro. Tim Post officiating.  Mrs. Roussel, age sixty-eight, of Houma, formerly of Bastrop, LA, went home to be with her father Monday evening, July 22, 2019, after a brief illness. Her passing was peaceful and in her sleep.

She is preceded in death by her father, Don A. Burlew, and her mother, Beulah Mae Givens Burlew.

Ms. Margaret is survived by her brother, Robert Samuel “Sam”  Burlew and his wife Cindy; nephew, Evan Hale Burlew; nieces, Allyson Burlew Parker and husband Corey, Elizabeth “Libby” Burlew  Nelson, Dona Burlew Rodgers and husband Trevor, Meredith Leanne Burlew; several cousins, great nieces, and nephews. 

Ms. Margaret was a 1968 graduate of Bastrop High School, a graduate of Northeast Louisiana University with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Family and Consumer Sciences, a Masters Degree from Louisiana State University in Clothing and Textiles.  She also completed post-graduate education from Louisiana State University in Family and Financial Management. She was employed fo many years, until her retirement, as an Extension Educator for Louisiana State University Agriculture Center. 

She was a long-time advocate for Louisiana 4-H programs, a member of Louisiana Volunteers for Family and Community (LVFC), a founding member of the Louisiana Extension of Family and Consumer Sciences (LEAFCS), for which she served three terms as state president, and she was a  very active member of Kappa Kappa Iota (KKI), a professional educator organization.  She served on various national and regional committees for KKI; served two terms as the state president at the Eta State (Louisiana) level; also served as First Vice President, Second Vice President, Secretary, Empathy Chair, while serving on many other Eta State committees.  She was a member of the Beta Iota Chapter (Houma) of Eta State where she served in every office possible and all existing committees.  She most recently served as Secretary for both Eta State and Beta Iota Chapter.
