Obituary of Dot Solomon
Dorothy Maye “Dot” V. Solomon, of Bastrop, LA left this earth and went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, early Thursday morning, September 19, 2019. She died of natural causes and passed away peacefully at the age of ninety-one, with her children by her side.
Funeral services for Mrs. Solomon are scheduled for 3 p.m., Sunday, September 22, 2019 at First Baptist Church with Bro. Richard Gambill and Bro. Dick Day officiating. Interment will follow in Christ Church Cemetery under the direction of Golden Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. until 3 p.m. Sunday at the church.
“Mrs. Dot” was a life-long member of First Baptist Church, and very active in the leadership and participation in God’s work within First Baptist, until her health began to fail. She and her Marine husband, Cleo, were some of the founding members of the Bastrop Jaycees. They loved their work with the Eastern Star Sunny South Chapter, and the Barak Shrine of Monroe. They shared a passion for traveling, camping, and spending time with their grands and greats. She was one to share her passion of gardening with anyone willing to listen. Mrs. Dot was a competitive gal. She loved her friendships with others through game nights at the church, and playing with friends and family at home. Never giving in....never taking prisoners!! Rich was her life. She was so full of abundant love; God’s love, that she was unashamed to share with others, and leading those around her by example.
She is survived by her daughters, Patricia Carlisle, Sara Hawkins, and husband Terrell; son, Danny Solomon, and better-half Gina B. Murrah; brother, Jack D. Varnado, and wife Darlene; grandchildren, Amber Richardson, and husband Steven, Clay Carlisle, and wife Jessica, Tara Conley, Tricia Jowell, and husband Chris; great grandchildren, Hayden, Evan, Andy, Nolan, Braddock, Patton, Adelynn, Landry, Reed, Jackson, Walker Rex and Sadie Maye; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
Mrs. Solomon is preceded in death by her husband, Cleo Solomon, and parents, Jewel and Estelle Varnado.
Serving as pallbearers are,Danny Solomon, Terrell Hawkins, Clay Carlisle, Steven Richardson, Randy Solomon, and Chris Jowell.
