Obituary of Jan Thurlo Flowers Harkness

Funeral services for Mrs. Jan Thurlo Flowers Harkness, age 57, of Bastrop, LA, are scheduled for 2 PM Thursday, February 27, 2020 at Cherry Ridge Baptist Church with Rev. Dennis Hackler officiating. Interment will follow in Carter Cemetery under the direction of Golden Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 5 PM until 7 PM Wednesday at Golden Funeral Home. Mrs. Harkness, a member of Cherry Ridge Baptist Church since 2008 and a Sunday School teacher, passed away Sunday, February 23, 2020. Mrs. Harkness was born in Newelton, LA on March 3, 1962. She is a 1980 graduate of Bastrop High School and a 1982 graduate of ULM Business Administration, she was also an active duty Army wife for eight years. Mrs. Harkness was a dedicated worker and worked as secretary for Leesville General Hospital, returned to Bastrop and served as secretary of Greenacres Baptist Church for approximately six years, North Monroe Hospital for five years and Centurylink for twenty years. She loved her backyard garden, her cats and playing piano. She was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Combat Vets Association who raise money to help veterans in need. She is survived by her husband of 37 years, Jimmy Harkness; son, Blake Edward Harkness and wife Magen of West Monroe, LA; parents, Cecil and Sue Flowers of Bastrop, LA; brother, Cecil “Ray” Flowers, Jr. and wife, Robbi of Slidell, LA; nephews, Robert Flowers of Mandeville, LA, Ryan Flowers of Slidell, LA; niece, Heather Flowers Rice and husband Adam of Bastrop, LA; great nephew, Maddox Rice of Bastrop, LA. She is preceded in death by her grandparents, Edward and Mamie Thurlo and Warren and Iva Flowers. Serving as pallbearers will be Ryan Flowers, Robert Flowers, Ronald Brown, Cody Harkness, Dane Harkness and Lynn Sanders. Honorary pallbearers will be, Devon Hayes, Bobby Nugent, Jerry DeVille, Sonny Nason and Todd Wilson.
