My name is Ronnie Nugent and Butch and I were close friends in our high school years. I lived in Swartz, La. Butch's mom and my mom were good friends from school. Mom loved to visit Lola as often as she could and I would drive her to Bastrop so they could visit. That's how I met Butch and became his friend. Butch would visit us in Swartz on the weekends. He told me he planned to join the Marines and wanted us to join together. I had plans to go to college and join the Air Force later. I tried several times to get in touch with him, but couldn't reach him. I was surprised and saddened when I heard of his passing. He was a great friend.

Dad I love you. I know we didn't quite see eye to eye on everything, but I could never ask for a better father. You were my best friend growing up and to this day still the one person that I knew without a shadow of a doubt would be there for me no matter what. It didn't matter if we weren't on good terms it didn't matter if I was being a smart aleck or if I was being a jerk you would be there at the drop of a hat no questions asked if I needed you. If I needed advice you'd give it. You always tried your best to steer me in the right direction and like a child I didn't always listen or follow through but I always heard you. And I've never wanted to talk to you and ask for your advice more than I do right now. I truly hope you never doubted my love for you and I hope you never thought you weren't a good enough father to me because you were the best. I just wish I could tell you these things now. I love you. We all love you and I hope to see you again someday.

So sorry to see this. Haven’t seen Butch in years but I worked with him in Monroe when he worked for the Dept Of Labor. He was always a super nice guy. Prayers for your family.

Butch was the greatest husband to my mother! He treated her so good and worshipped her every move and was an amazing example to how a wife should be treated. I will miss our talks and watching college football! You were the greatest thing to ever happen for my mother and I am thankful to God for that time yal were given. I hope that in years down the road people can say that I treated my wife as good as you did my mother. I love you and miss you!

Dora and I will never forget "Butch" as he was a part of our lives for several years when we lived in Bastrop. We always enjoyed his company. Deborah (and family) you are in our prayers as you walk through this "valley" experience. Please know you are not forgotten. God loves you and so do we. Our hearts are hurting, but we know in whom we have believed. You are loved.

Butchy is my cousin. It was Butchy who gave me the best description of Santa Claus. "Santa Claus is perfectly round." I am older now with grand children of my own. But to me, Santa Claus will always be perfectly round, just like Butchy said.
