Obituary of Lela Christine Westbrook

Funeral services for Mrs. Lela Christine Westbrook are scheduled for 2 PM Sunday, February 28, 2021 at Cherry Ridge Baptist Church with Bro. Dennis Hackler and Bro. Tony Campanale officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mrs. Westbrook, a resident of Bastrop, passed away Thursday, February 25, 2021 at the age of ninety-two. Christine was the last survivor of her graduating class of 1945 Oak Ridge High School. She worked for Clark Williams, Sr., of Oak Ridge, LA when he started a telephone service in his home. The switchboard is now housed in Century Tel in Monroe. She also worked as a telephone operator for South Central Bell until she met the love of her life, Joe, and married him July 21, 1950. After marriage she became a stay at home mom. Christine enjoyed spending time with family, sewing, reading, and traveling. She especially enjoyed taking cruises. Christine was affectionately known as “Babo” to her grandchildren, great grandchildren and their friends.
Christine was a former member of Greenacres Baptist Church for sixty-seven years, where she made her profession of faith in 1952 and served as a Sunday School teacher, choir member, and participated in the Drama Club. She united with Cherry Ridge Baptist Church in 2019 where she continued to serve the Lord.
She is survived by her daughter, Gail Winnon; son, Bill Westbrook, both of Bastrop, LA; sister, Joy Crawley of Lubbock, TX; grandchildren, David Standard of Easley, SC, Greg Winnon and Stephanie of Monroe, LA, Christy Hughes and husband Allen of Bastrop, LA, Angela Durham and husband Chris of Union Grove, AL, Curtis Westbrook of Monroe, LA; great grandchildren, Chelsey Durham, Autumn Saunders, Jadon Gray, Grace Durham; grandchildren in love, Cameron Hughes, Colby Hughes, Jaden Holliman, Colby Durham, and numerous nephews and nieces.
Mrs. Westbrook is preceded in death by her parents, James and Maggie Williams; husband, Joe Westbrook; sisters, Gladys McRee, Nancy Ackerman, Dorothy Clark, Jean Redden, Margie Ashton, and Rosie Cole.
Serving the family as pallbearers are Johnny Marchbank, Greg Sadler, Cameron Hughes, Lynn Sanders, Laverne Johnson, Jerry Deville, and Tony Tullos.
The family would like to express a special thanks to our Premier Hospice team: Lindy, Cindy, Emily, Kierra, Aundrea and Bro. Andy.
The family will receive friends Saturday, February 27, 2021 from 5 PM - 7 PM at Golden Funeral Home.
