Funeral services for John Sydney Green Jr., age 78, of Bastrop, LA, are scheduled for 2 PM Monday, March 29, 2021, at Greenacres Baptist Church with Bro. Casey Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at Mer Rouge Cemetery under the direction of Golden Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 4 PM - 6 PM Sunday, March 28, 2021, at Greenacres Baptist Church. John attended LSU from 1961-1965 with a Bachelor’s of Business Administration. He was a member of Lambda Chi Fraternity and described many good times with his fraternity brothers. After graduating, John was a dairy farmer and cattleman. His family owned Green Bros Dairy from the 1940's - present. John was president of the family dairy business from 1980 - present. He and his family received multiple awards from the Dairy Association and the Cattleman Farmer’s Association. John also served in the National Guard for six years. He was a member of Bonita Road Baptist Church at Mer Rouge. He loved his church family. Lastly, John was the president of the Kelly and Smith Lake Fishing Club. He spent many happy hours fishing and visiting with anyone who loved to fish or just talk about fishing. John is survived by his wife, Deborah Chase Green; two children, John S. Green III (Tre’) and wife Christy of Chesterfield, NJ, Holly Green Spyker and husband Billy D. of Bastrop, LA; step-daughter, Shauna Withers and husband Jeff of Natchez, LA; brother, Bob Green and wife Sarah; sister, Mary “Sissy” Green Bourn and husband Bill of Monroe, LA; grandchildren, Hannah E. Spyker, John Williams Spyker, Andrew Grice Spyker, Mattie Louise Spyker, Katherine Ann Green, John Sydney Green IV; step-grandchildren, Austin M. Withers, Dustin L. Withers, Charles Houston Bass; and five nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Louise Vick Green and John S. Green. Serving as pallbearers will be Austin M. Withers, Dustin L. Withers, John William Spyker, Charles Houston Bass, Robert Allen Green, Vick Green, and Keith Hammack. Honorary pallbearers will be Winfred Smith, W.T. Rials, Paul James, and Tim Vick. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Oschner LSU Monroe Medical Center ICU Staff and physicians Dr. Walters and Dr. Sulove.
