Funeral services for Mr. Melvin Johnston, Jr. are scheduled for 2 PM Thursday, April 8, 2021, in the chapel of Golden Funeral Home with Bro. Doug Edwards officiating. Interment will follow in Bonita Cemetery. The visitation will be held from 1 PM - 2 PM service time Thursday at Goldens.
Mr. Johnston, a resident of Bonita, LA, passed away Tuesday, April 6, 2021, at the age of seventy-five. He graduated in 1967 with an Agriculture Business Degree from Northwestern State University, where he also played football. Mr. Johnston retired as a Chemical Sales Representative for Sanders Chemical Company. He had a special love for football, and enjoyed hunting and cooking, especially Cajun food.
Mr. Johnston is survived by his wife, Maris “Scoopie” Johnston; daughters, Charlotte Strother, Deede McDowell and husband B.J.; step-son, Udie Herrington; brother-in-law, Lee McKoin; grandchildren, Drew Morse, Kristen Speer, Brett Herrington, Carlie Morse, Claire Herrington, Cassidy Alexander, Hayden Alex, Baron McDowell; four great-grandchildren; niece, Tresa Moyers and Husband Trey; one great-niece and one great-nephew.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Imelda Johnston; and sister-in-law, Yvonne McKoin.
Serving as pallbearers will be Trey Moyers, Damien Moyers, Udie Herrington, Dallas McKoin, Lee McKoin, Drew Morse, and Ken Kovac. Honorary pallbearers will be Tommy Brister and Tommy Brister, Jr.
