Mrs. Milton, a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, passed away Monday, May 3, 2021, at the age of 94. Born on July 26, 1926 in Campti, LA, Mrs. Milton resided in Swartz, LA and upon graduation moved to Bastrop, LA, in 1948, where she worked at Single Service, a division of International Paper Company. It was in Bastrop that she met Charles Ellis Milton Sr. They were later married on Nov. 22, 1952, and had the distinction of being the first couple to wed at St Joseph Catholic Church. They were both also founding members of Kraftman Federal Credit Union. Mrs. Milton transitioned from being a working girl to a housewife and mother. Always strong-willed and independent, Mrs. Milton was not your typical 1950’s housewife and told our father that she would not walk behind him, but she would walk beside him. She was widowed in 1994 and lived alone, determined to maintain her independence and steadfast strong will. This attitude manifested itself in one of her favorite sayings that she used quite often, which was, “If you don't like my peaches, don't shake my tree." She paired this outlook throughout her lifetime with a supreme faith in God and a love of her church. Those that knew her and spoke with her knew she also loved her family and friends. She loved nothing more than to tell a good story about them all (the good ones repeatedly) with her laughter sprinkled throughout.
Mrs. Milton is survived by her sons, Steve Milton, Charles Milton and wife Betty, Kent Milton; daughters, Laura Riles and husband Roy, Sheila Lanius and husband Tommy; sisters, Lucille Easterling, Dorothy Laws; brother, Otis Chaplin; grandchildren, Sara Milton, Stephen Milton, and wife April, Daniel Oswalt and wife Whitney, Emily Coody and husband Kayne, Regina Dodson and husband James, Gretchen Tiser and husband Jason, Leigh Hancock and husband Jeff, Heather Malone and husband Matt; great-grandchildren, Briana Hayden and husband Richie, Brandon Milton, Kasen Oswalt, Hudson Coody, Kannon Coody, Lucy Tiser, Margaret Tiser, Mary Thomas Tiser, Julia Tiser, Jonah Hancock, Landry Hancock, Caid Malone, Ellis Malone, Finn Malone, Shawn Carroll, Shelby Williams, Tye Carroll, Jared Carroll; and five great-great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by husband, Charles Ellis Milton, Sr., parents, Felix and Ozelia Chaplin; brothers, Matthew Chaplin, Joe Chaplin, Willard Chaplin, Clayton Chaplin, Mitchell Chaplin, Curtis Chaplin; sisters, Ella Perot, Sadie Smith, Rose Mary Chaplin; and grandson, Rodney Riles.
