On Wednesday, July 7, 2021, Carroll Ann Carter of Oak Ridge, LA died at the age of 86 at the Northern Louisiana Medical Center after a brief illness.
Funeral services celebrating the life of Carroll Ann will be held at 3:00 P.M., Sunday, July 11, 2021 in the Oak Ridge Methodist Church in Oak Ridge, LA with Pastor Nat Barnett officiating, under the direction of Golden Funeral Home in Bastrop, LA. Visitation will be from 1:30 P.M. until service time on Sunday at the Oak Ridge Methodist Church. Interment will be in the Oak Ridge Baptist Cemetery in Oak Ridge, LA.
Carroll Ann was born in Dubach, LA on October 2, 1934 to T.L. and Florence Smith. On December 30, 1954, she married Joe Sidney Carter, Jr. in Oak Ridge, LA where they eventually settled and raised their children.
Traveling, especially to the mountains of northern New Mexico, was a passion of Carroll Ann’s. She and Joe Sidney enjoyed exploring North Africa and Europe during his time in the military and started an annual tradition of family vacations to the mountains of Colorado and New Mexico. She also enjoyed her “girls only” adventures with Libba Craft, Kay Bain, Ann Pipes, Ann Clair and Diana Wright. They rafted down the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon and rafted the Middle Fork of the Salmon River in Idaho. In 1992, they achieved their Arctic Circle Certificate when they spent six weeks driving the Alaskan Highway and exploring Alaska.
She is preceded in death by her parents T.L. and Florence Smith; her husband, Joe Sidney Carter, Jr.; and brother-in-law, Gene Wright.
She is survived by her daughter, Carmie Carter (Alexandria, VA); son, Todd Carter and wife, Tammy (Crossett, AR); daughter, Caroline Carter (Santa Fe, NM); grandsons, Tucker Carter, Thomas Carter; her sister, Diana Wright (Flower Mound, TX); granddogs, Little Thom, Missy and Brett; as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be: Thomas Carter, Tucker Carter, Edwin Craft, Johnny Fitch, Bubba Stevenson and George Young.
Honorary pallbearers will be: Gene Allen, Andy Barham, Tommy Barham, Frances Jordan, Mike Nelson and Clint Shepard.
The family would like to thank and acknowledge the support from Jimmy Mays, Jo Thaxton, Ann Moore and Danielle Wells that enabled her to live independently for most of her life and the dedicated professionals at Northern Louisiana Medical Center, Russ Place and Tender Touch who supported her during her final illness.
