Funeral services for Essie Delorus Jennings are scheduled for 10 AM Wednesday, August 25, 2021, in the chapel of Golden Funeral Home with Bro. Rocky Harris officiating. Interment will follow in Carter Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday, prior to the service, beginning at 9 AM.
Essie Delorus Jennings, known as "Yankee" to family and close friends, was born in Tacoma, Washington on March 24, 1953 and went home to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on August 21, 2021. Yankee worked for numerous years as a cashier until finding her true calling in child care. She loved teaching and had a special way with children and cared for them as if they were her own. She later received her degree as a state certified Director of Child Care and began working for Mrs. Lynda's Daycare and Mrs. Elsie's Daycare in the early 1990's in Bastrop, LA. After years of heartfelt dedication with her little angels, she was able to open her own daycare at home that allowed her to continue her passion until retiring. Some of her favorite past times included cooking, swimming, playing cards and making precious memories with her family.
She is preceded in death by her parents Odis & Sadie Harris, sisters, Loretta Walton and Teresa McGhee.
She is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Dennis Jennings, children Scott Jennings & wife Alice, Shannon Jennings & wife Christy and Tracy Morehouse and husband Matt; grandchildren, Tyler Jennings & wife Hannah, Patrick Mizell, Carrie Mizell, Sarah Tidwell & husband Brandon, Rebekah Jennings, Katie Sellar & husband Jonathon, Grace Jennings, Morgan Faust, Christopher Faust, Laila Huwaiz, Cade Huwaiz; great-grandchildren Emersyn & Brilynn Jennings, Natalie, Hunter & Fisher Tidwell, Aleah & Anthony (A.J.) Preston, Cory Dixs, Elijah Faust, Rose (Rosie) Johnson, Analese Faust, Elizabeth Faust; brothers Henry Harris & wife Kathy, Rocky Harris & wife Emma, Clint Harris, Ricky Harris & wife Lori; Sister Darlene Halterman & husband Mark along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Serving as pallbearers will be Tyler Jennings, Patrick Mizell, Brandon Tidwell, David Jones, John Mark Jones, Jimmy Fuqua & Tanner Hammonds.
